disconcerting disorientation

I don't know if you've ever done this, but I've only ever done it a couple of times in my life - get your minds out of the gutters!

I was having a nap and the cell phone rang, which I had tucked into bed with me because the man was heading to Canada and who knows who from there might have phoned.  A friend called.

I did not know where I was, what country I was in, what language I was speaking.  I knew there was something I was worried about, but could not fathom what it was...the most alarming part I think.

The sense of confusion lasted for hours.  Rationally I knew what was going on, but felt all whacked out and lost.

Weird weird weird.

Barça beat Madrid handily though, so all must be right in the world.

  1. Oh yes, I've been guilty of that. Naps can be very disorienting. Giving over to the intense fatigue in the middle of the day is delicious but I invariably wake up in a pissy mood. Strange, huh?

  2. This always happened to my mom after she came back from the Netherlands... would wake up from a nap and walk around speaking Dutch and asking why I couldn't understand..

Happened a few times on our trip... maybe you were dreaming in Canada or something.

  3. welcome to my life! this happens to me ALL the time when i wake up in hotel rooms and have no clue what city I'm in or why i'm there - it is creepy - and when you get that disturbed about something but cant remember what on top....
i've kinda learned to just go with it though :-)

  4. I’ve done it. I surmise that it’s due to the combination of a deep sleep abruptly interrupted plus matters weighing on my mind. As for the disorientation – I figure there was a message somewhere in that sleep/dream state that I was unable to discover due to the interruption. Keeps nagging at my brain…

  5. I once thought it was late afternoon instead of early morning and hurtled downstairs to get to the bank only to discover they hadn't even opened yet.
