cranky...is it good or bad?

The man and I spent a few hours today going through the details of the house plans to ensure that all is well, lights, heat, water, etc...

Again.

We'll have a meeting with the architect (mark 2 who seems to be working out better) to finalise these details, or get as close as we can to doing that.

I am getting so very tired of doing this over and over and over.

Ho hum.

I don't know if this is a Catalan thing or if architects the world over do this, but they keep telling us to decide where we're going to put the furniture so that we can decide where the outlets and lights should go.  I have to confess that I don't affix my furniture to the ground with concrete and possibly whomever lives in the house after us would like their own furniture, and maybe arranged differently.  So, maybe we should just put these things in a logical kind of place....no?

Whatever.

I've been reading Edward Abbey in anticipation of lending it to a friend to read.  He is so funny and so cranky.  The Journey Home.

You do have to work out where everything goes, because they have to put the cabling and the plumbing into the walls. When we built The Bower we worked all the furniture out on graph paper, plotted all the power points etc etc, moved the furniture in, left it a couple of weeks, moved it all around, and put the furniture in front of the plugs.

Basic rules are to put in more power points than you think you need because you always need more, especially in the kitchen.

Whenever I read about your trials it makes me put my own imminent kitchen event in perspective! Good luck

Jason, as himself said...

So construction takes forever, no matter where in the world you are?

Trying to figure out where outlets are needed can be important, but there are so MANY important decisions, no? Overwhelming.

More in the kitchen is probably something we haven't done. I'll revise that...I am weirdly luddite in the kitchen and use few appliances, but that is not typical.

Boo, good luck with it nonetheless...

Jason, seems longer here, just sayin'

Hula, Truly, overwhelming. truly. Are you happy with how it all turned out in your neck of the woods? Errors you'd like to mention?

At least they seem to care where the outlets go, and at least you get to plan them! Here we often get 'em according to the building code, which means every 4 feet, whether you need one there or not, and sometimes in the dumbest places.

Not to mention where the phone jacks sometimes end up. For example, under the kitchen bar/counter. That's okay if you don't mind bumping your knees on the phone when you sit at the bar or answering the phone in the laps of your companions. Otherwise, not such a great idea.

Our challenge here is how FEW outlets they think is normal.....phones? Haven't gotten there yet.

As we are coming to visit you I am counting up the number of adapters we need for things that need charging andit comes to an embarrasingly high number

We have quite a few adapters, but bring some if you want.....we don't have a blow dryer so if you can't live without one, pack it.

Their question totally make sense. Did you forget already that you're not supposed to want to ever move from that house? ever?

OH YES! I forgot about that......
