Creativity and God

I was watching this video over on Ted Talks. If you've never visited, you really should cruise over there, you will have your mind expanded, in twenty minutes by any one of a thousand brilliant thinkers and speakers.

Sir Ted Robinson told a story during his speech on the importance of creativity and how our education systems kill it. His story is about a little girl, six years old, who was in a drawing lesson. She was at the back of the class, drawing. The teacher went over to the child and asked her what she was drawing.

The girl replied, "I'm drawing a picture of God."

The teacher paused and then stated (oh so teacher-ily) that, "Nobody knows what God looks like."

Without a pause the little girl replied, "They will in a minute."

I remember watching this. It is a great talk. I love the creativity and confidence of a child. To bad it is often lost as the child grows.

I love that story. I've heard it before.
I never, ever attempted to "correct" my children's creative effforts. And I was always so fascinated to see how they viewed the world.

GREAT story. Have you heard of the Waldorf educational method? I loved his philosophy for preserving the magic of childhood.

elPadawan, so confident isn't she...too bad we lose that willingness to run with an idea.

Dawn, it was an interesting talk, I actually found him a little disordered, though I have to say that things keep appearing in my mind from it, so it certainly was an effective talk.

Beth, YES! I am always waiting with baited breath in those moments to see how they think, and how they think things work...it is SO fascinating!

Michele, yes indeed I have heard of Waldorf, Steiner was a brilliant man and I love so much of what they do in Waldorf...itis an amazing view of the world.
