Weirdness

On the not weird front, my sister is here with her kids, and I am seriously excited. SERIOUSLY!!!

On the weird front, I got a note from a fellow blogger, that my URL was taking her over to an ...ummmm.... right wing religious (Christian) site.

Ummm,

OK,

I did a little research, and it seems that when I typed in my URL to her wordpress site to make a comment, I made a little mistake. You see I typed the orenetaaground part right, but inverted two letters in the blogspot part and woah Nelly, look where you wind up.

Seems this organisation is taking out URL addresses, that closely resemble sites and altering them slightly to get accidental hits.

Strangely the stats show no unusual searches or hits...

Hmmmm.....

Why would that be?????

Was it something I said or is this just a bit of random weirdness?

What do you think?

Later

After going through a random collection of blogger blogs, it seems to not have been anything I said, as most if not all of you may well have the same problem. Invert the s and p in blogspot when you type in your site URL and look to see what comes up. The inactivity on the keywords made me suspicious that it was a more universal issue....

BLOGGER...are you listening????? You may want to do something about this.....

Sleezy.

Kind of like those foul hairy stinking unwashed *men* that work on construction sites who shout disgusting things at you as you walk past....those men, and these sites, think they actually might be enticing!?!?!?!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure I'm paying extra attention from now on when I type "blogpsot."

ya, they think they are enticing...but what kind of people are they enticing? I don't think I wanna know! ;)

Jason, as himself said...

Okay, I checked it out. Irritating! Do these people think God needs to have people trick others into going to a site to learn about hellfire and damnation?

That does it. Last week I purchased the domain www.thejasonshow.com and I'm switching it over today.

Thanks for the heads up!

Don't even get me started on the Christian right wing! I'm posting my "how I got kicked out of church" post tomorrow.

Geez!

Interesting...and quite clever of them to have nailed "blogpsot" since it is virtually un-say-able. Now if only they used their power for good instead of....

Tried it with my url – went to what I assume is the same site. Granted, I’m not thinking too clearly these days, but I don’t get it. They (the site) have to rely on people misspelling blogspot, right? Are they making money on these hits and/or just trying to “entice” the people who get there via such random means to embrace their point of view? (Didn’t work for me!)
Remember when I discovered PeekYou?
The Internet is weird – and sometimes scary.

Enjoy the time with your sister and her kids!

That is creepy and weird indeed! When I read this I was thinking that construction workers don't seem as bad as they used to and then it occured to me that it could because I will be 51 in less than a fortnight! I suppose that must be considered an advantage to growning old!

Yes CS, I'm going to be a little more careful too...

elP it would be interesting to fidget around with the wordpress sites and see what comes up...this one is a blogger bug...

No...Beth, I don't want to know, I really don't.

Jason...could you give a little how-to on the domain name thing???? That sounds cool....

She, I'm looking forward to it...and it won't be the first I've read..sadly.

Bhodi, it doesn't always have anything to do with good or God sadly so much as their own agenda. unPLEAsant.

Beth, the internet is certainly weird, which is probably a reflection of humanities weirdness....hope your feeling better soon.

Mar...with you completely..uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Boo, the Spanish work site guys must be open minded.....

That is definitely odd. Does Orenetaaground mean something religious? I realise it was from the s and p being mixed, but why would they use orenetaaground in the first place. Things that make you go hmmmmmm...

Did a Google search on orenetaaground and after a whole bunch of links...I found this:

Sirdar, I have not been targeted personally, there are a whole lot of blogspot blogs that this has happened to. It seems the organisation has decided to use this as a form of marketing...a strange one to be sure. As far as the second comment goes, I am a Baha'i, though not a very active one, and that site has linked to me. I don't mind at all....

It did shock me a bit when I clicked on it and up pops this very un-Oreneta-ish site. I knew you would not appreciate it.

What gets me is that do they actually think people read it and convert?

Carla, thanks for the heads up....I don't appreciate it, but I doubt there is much any of us can do....bizarre isn't it the way they can think that this would be a successful appeal.
