Of ships and snails...heck, the rhyme isn't working.

This beautiful catamaran went past just about at dinner time....we can see it from the living room. The sun shining on the sails is just lovely.

One of Youngest's friends gave her this little treasure, we have since let him/her go back, but he/she was very very active!

I did a bunch of painting, not as much as I really wanted to, but I think I finished the yellow doorway, the light is too low, so no photo, but I'll put it up tomorrow maybe. I think it worked well. I am pretty happy with it.

I also did some sketching, because I really need to improve my figure drawing if I am going to go anywhere. I have been in love with Rembrandt's work for YEARS....in L.O.V.E. His paintings are amazing, and his sketches and drawings are also mind-boggling. I don't know if he was a kind man, but his work is so intimate and loving and lovely. Soooo since I have no books here...I did a google search and downloaded what I could find (and added a couple of books to the old wish list) and got to work.

The head took me three tries, but I whipped the hand off on the first go!

I love his angels. They have feet that look sort of under-employed and adorable, like small children as they are being picked up. This may have been his intention of course...Angels being raised up by the father and all.

I had no idea (or forgot?) that you have such a beautiful view from your living room. You lucky, lucky woman.

(BTW - one of the books I bought was All Creatures Great and Small. Can't believe I hadn't read it - must have seen it on TV?)

Kate, it is the view from my window and it isn't...remember the incredible manipulative power of the media? Think telephoto and cropping....but yes, the photo was from the window...I just cut out some of the stuff in between. Have you read the Beagle book? David Quamman (sp?) wrote a fantastic book about, OH crap, it is late and I am not coming up with the name, Watson, Wilson...darn...anyway the man who was coming up with the same idea, who pushed Darwin to publish. They were published at the same time, but Darwin got all the credit...he had better contacts.

Beth, if you saw the BBC versions, they were excellent....and it is a good book...not art, but a good book...

Beth, see above, but we are indeed very very lucky and value it immensely that we can see the sea...especially for us. Glad you liked the chickpeas, and I am sorry your salmon was dreadful. I tried to comment but my computer is freaking out, I'll try again later.

No, I haven't read the beagle book, but I might pick it up on the next visit to the States...

very nice sketch... Ever thought of setting up a tent between the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée du Louvre in Paris? I'm sure you'd be able to stay there for hours ;)

I love how the boat lights up in the photos. Awesome. I would so be trying to paint that if I were an artist. Daughter C would be so wanting that pet.

elPadawan, now there's a thought....all that food too.....

Dawn, as the sun goes down the boats look particularly lovely...we have had many many pet snails, this one needed to go back to its friends.
