Dance class

Hula sent a meme, and I will do it, I promise, it looks like fun...

but not today.

We've attended the end of year program for two seperate dance schools/groups and can I just say that I don't like the sight of small girls all tarted up wearing next to nothing and shaking their booty in highly sexualised ways, I am very glad my kids aren't up there doing that.

Gyrating small girls
+ near nakedness
+ stages
+ highly sexed lyrics and choreography

for me is just.....

disconcerting.

Do you hear what I'm saying?

Something looks all wrong with this and I am not sure why I seem to be the only one who thinks so.

this reminds me of the beauty pageant scene in Little Miss Sunshine... if you haven't seen it, you should!

You are not alone. It's so wrong - and sad.

Trish, it is totally weird and I find it frankly dreadful every time. I have been out of Canada long enough now that I don't know if we do it there at dance recitals or not but over here.....good lord.

elPadawan, is it a movie? Gotta go google...

mmichele...and all those people in the audience taking photos. Goodness gracious. What must the grandparents think.

Beth, ues indeed honestly it is very sad. I am so glad the girls don't want any part of it.

It is, and I think it won Sundance film festival awards, at the very least :)

I totally agree with you. I don't know about the dance scene, but even the clothes people put on their little girls are less than modest and I remember it being difficult to find dresses long enough for the girls because the style was short skirts.

When she was younger my daughter was in competitive cheerleading for a couple of years, and while her group didn't tart up, most of the others did. It was very disturbing, mostly because of how willing their parents were to accept their young girls tromping around like a Vegas club act. I was glad when my daughter said, "No more."

elPadawan...I'll have to rent it when I get to TO...onto the list...

Dawn, I have been lucky, the girls aren't very girly girls...whew.

Hula, what are some of those parents thinking...I mean it is like a walking ad for pedophilia...*gag*

WHY would you do that to your kid? I do wonder if I am the only sick puppy, but I start to feel a compulsive urge to scan and photgraph the audience to provide future evidence.
