Of cars and work and snakey times

Hey! Started work today...OMG!!!

Everyone was WAY more, ummm, tense than me...I'm picking up speed though.

We've settled into the friend's house we stay in when we're here in TO, and I am sitting here with my incredibly cool friend showing her how to blog...she can do ANYTHING...now she'll say hi:

Well, I fed my snake tonight...he's a corn snake...he's orange and red and brown
and my son called him Oregana II....

I asked her why and she says it has to do with a snake story.....

He's called Oregana II, cause we bought a snake and when we brought him home in the car and he escaped....we tried everything to find him, took the car apart as much
as we could, and left a stinking blanket with dead mice in it for two nights
(snakey heaven *peeueeww*) The Snake Man told us he would probably have left the car after two days, but three weeks later there was this smell....we were up north to the cottage and so we took the car apart, low and behold, we found Oregano I....he was not (thankfully) decomposed, we removed him all in one piece, and intered him with a ceremony under a tree....

The Snake Man had packaged him badly (no sh*t Sherlock) and felt he was responsible and so he gave us another - well packaged - snake to take home with us.

Meet Oregana II...

Sorry folks no photo, maybe tomorrow...

The girls were playing with him tonight...he is quite lovely.

Have a snakey evening if that's what suits you...

See ya later.

hmmm... snakes :). Did you know there is only one dangerous snake in Ontario? It is the massasauga rattlesnake, but it's not found around TO, I think :p

One used to have to go for walks in the Niagara Fall Gorge to hear/meet/see them.
Are they still there?
I have an absolute, primeval fear of the things, although harmless, Ontario garden snakes didn't used to phase me.
Now I keep a HUGE distance between THEM AND ME.
Coincidence here or there - your kids play with snakes on Summer Solstice Eve?!!!
IT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT DAYNIGHT OF THE YEAR FOR LATVIANS AND EVERYONE CELEBRATES IT!
Latvian tradition has it, that that's the night the sun never really sets and everyone goest out in the countryside. Eventually young couples wander off all on their own.
The point of the whole thing? Ending up in a secluded wood or glade and discovering how ferns blossom!
No one ever needs instructions in these explorations as they lead to the height of satisfaction of one's primal instincts!
For the first time in years we've had a rainless, balmy, mild night - millions of mosquitoes as hungry, thirsty guests though.
As a result - we now have to wait and see what next March has to show for it all! That's life in Latvia! GM

Okay...one more reason I'm not meant to be a snake owner. Ack! I could not sit in a car that might possibly have a snake roaming around in it..dead or alive.

When I was a kid I brought home a garter snake that I found at the cottage. It escaped in the car so we spent the whole trip scrambling over the seats trying to catch it . . . it was the 70's - seat belts were optional.

I finally caught it and kept it as a pet for a year and then let it go the next summer.

I like snakes, they're cool.

We had a snake sighting last weekend. One son found it, one son picked it up and one mother backed away. Of all the many pets we've had, I drew the line at snakes. Too creepy, crawly...

elPadawan, yes I knew that, it is really only found up in a few regions, mostly in the Georgian Bay area, it is very shy and I have never ever seen on outside of a zoo...but maybe one has seen me....

GM, they are rare to endangered...but to the best of my knowledge they are still there. I don't find snakes icky honestly, I've picked up garters any number of times....I once saw one with half a frog half way out it's mouth. The suspicious swelling behind it's jaws indicated where the other half was.

Hula, not your thing, huh?

Trish, I agree, they are pretty cool, and they feel so strong and ropey and alive when you hold them.

Beth, I wouldn't want it to get out in the house....not as much fun....

i think snakes are a perfect pet... they are quiet and you only need to feed them once per week.

except when they escape.
