4 am is a bad time.

Just back from the emergency vet. We had to put the dog down. It was the right thing to do, she was old and ill and had been running 10K a week and a half ago. She was thin and weak, she could barely move around and I think she chose.

That was not fun though.

I must say, this house-sitting gig can be just a little stressful.

It is good she had the seizures while I was home, while the girls were asleep, without missing her owners for ages, and while the Catalan girl was still here so I could just GO in the middle of the night.

I have to get to bed and try to get some sleep. I am going to be so very tired today, but at least I won't be worrying about the dog.

My poor friends.

What makes me sad is that the owners didn't have their chance to say goodbye either. I supposed you told them...

That's a little much for a house sitting gig...I can't imagine.

Take care and I hope you get some sleep.

Poor puppy. Poor oreneta. How awful to have to do that..and then tell doggie's owners. Get some rest. You deserve it.

If you put all this ina movie NO ONE WOULD BELIEVE THAT THAT'S YOUR LIFE - I GET STRESSED OUT JUST READING WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH!!!

After a three month pause, I finally sent off the edited verion of the translation I was doing at your house the last time I visited!!
I marvel and what you are capable of going through and then describing it all so cool and off the cuff as if it were a very normal thing.
Yes, getting scared out of one's mind at the movies is one of those childhood MUSTS - do they still have chaperones wandering about with flashlights in the matinee shows in TO? GM

elPadawan, it wasn't entirely unexpected. The dog was already sick and had had a seizure a week or ten days before, but it wasn't expected either. They left yesterday and said some quite sincere and sorrowful farewells because none or us were sure she would be there when they got back.

They did say goodbye to some extent.

Mmichelle, this house sitting is not for the wimpy, let me tell you.

Hula, The wonder of cell phones and frequent fliers. I was on the phone with them as I was driving to the vet, one hand holding the phone, one patting the dog, one steering,a lit headlamp on my forehead and my shirt on inside out. They made the decision to put the dog down, though I would have done so if I couldn't reach them. I am much happier that they did though.

Bullwinkle...it was the Spanish girls last day, and she is Catalan, so we stayed up later than I really should have chatting, but it is her last day and I am going to miss her a lot.

GM, sometimes I am dazzled by the sheer aray of skills that are required of an adult. It can be a little overwhelming.

How sad. Despite a pet being old it is a tough decision and a tough thing to do. In the past, Sirdar has taken our dogs in. We now have an old (19 years) cat who has taken to putting her front feet in the litter box, her back feet on the edge of the 12 inch high box, and peeing in fountain formation all over the floor. She is going to be banned from the house, but come winter, I am not sure if it wouldn't be better to put her down.
