When Kieran and his friends were bored they used to play bingo with certain teachers. They each had set phrase the particular teacher would always use and they would try to get a line of them. It all turned out well - he's doing a PhD now!
I remember that when we got bored at a classroom level in a Litterature class, 'twas after high school, we actually had a reversi/othello turnament that I programmed on our calculators. Worked like a charm. And didn't prevent us from listening, still. If she's not the only one doing that, you can start wondering about how captivating the teachers are there :D

Ah, but what a delightful display of creativity!
There are far worse things she could do...and some people actually listen better when their hands are occupied.
And at least it isn't permanent!

Beth, she does it quite often actually....somewhat academically disturbing, and maybe she is listening, but I think not.
Jason, would you let your students do it in class? and of course, yes there are far worse things she could do....
Boo and Trev...something to get her started on, no?
