You know...

Chores that are occasional and could be quite a drag are a whole lot of fun with a willing kid.

Youngest and I tackled scrubbing out the safareig today, it is a GIANT sink in the patí, more like a tub honestly.  They were used for doing laundry....and probably a fair variety of other tasks too.    This first photo is a view of it befire construction began, the patí has changed, quite a bit.

Below is an image looking sort of over the top as if you were standing in front of it:

Finally, the whole thing:

Well, the story is longer than that...his Chuckiness found some nice smelly poo to roll around in and as he is shedding I couldn't quite imagine that much hair going down the drain, so the safareig it was.  Traditionally used for washing clothes, it was up to the task.

Once he got out, the girl and I went to it with scrubbies and cold water, then she wanted here bathing suit...and know what?  It was a lot of fun, but we both would have hated it on our own.

Wow I love the safareig! How fantastic! Speechless - almost...
PS Lucky you with Chucks willingness to be bathed. Duna made the most awful fuss this week after a similar encounter with poo and in the end we had to tie her very tightly to the stairs so we could wash her without being mauled to death. She has a strong character! K x

Yeah, I can see this - all of it, including his Royal Chuckiness looking rather sheepish. I was happy to read the man is less toxic. Did you say you were getting 12 hours of sleep a night? I don't know whether to be jealous or incredulous.

Only you could wind up with a gorgeous, interesting, historical home AND an outdoor dog wash. Seriously!

Ah so a safareig is the sink. I was under the misapprehension that it was a sort of utility room. And would that sink have had a fire lit under it in the olden days?

Kate, Chuck is, ultimately, a wimp and basically whines miserably and tries to leave.....

Kim, 12 hours a night...I don't know if it's ridiculous or not...seems odd, but I do do it sometimes....catch up time I guess. The bags under my eyes have certainly shrunk.

JG, is that good????

Tame Lion, thanks for dropping buy! Glad you liked it.

Jan, The word safareig was originally the big sink they did the wash in, though that term has also been applied to the fonts in the streets, some of which had space for doing laundry originally, indeed most of them would have, and is now applied to the laundry room....and this would not have had a fire under, cold water wash only in those days, though there was an old barbeque/wood stove next to it, so you could have boiled the whites right there.
