The older houses here used to have an outhouse out back. Literally, a plank with a hole in it, and once a year it would be emptied out, usually by a farmer who paid for the honour of carrying your
crap fertilizer out through your house, bucket by drippy bucketful....
Seems that ten years ago when they built the new toilet over the privy the house used to have they didn't bother to empty it first.
A good heads up, or rather down, from a neighbour!

“Oreneta, Oreneta, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?”
With what??!!
Sounds a bit better with Mary, Mary... ;)
OH
MY
GOD
please tell me you are joking. please.
maybe they tried to flush, failed, and stopped trying.
I find that old European houses are so full of...interesting surprises.
After we bought our house in France, we found out that the owners had built the garage right around the septic tank. That's right- the crap goes to a big cement box sitting right in the garage, next to where we park the car. Groovy, right?
Anyway- best of luck to you. I guess it has to be pumped out?
Whoops. Okay, now I'm not feeling so bad about that itty bitty patch of water damage we found in the frame of the patio doors at our new house.
Beth, loving that fertiliser, no??
Beth, YES indeed! It's the truth! The bathroom smells like it too.
ElP. could be....
Beth, ah! and that would be the tank that was leaking everywhere, no? We don't need to pump. Pour concrete most likely. It is 10 years old....(we assume the current toilet has drains to the municipal sewers, if not.....
OH my Hula, I have to take some pictures tomorrow....you will feel SO much better!
