Paris 4...I think the last, if only cause I've got other things to say.....

Here we go...the final run...though before I start can I just say how utterly lovely today has been? Clear skies, sunshine...I even got down to a tank top (walking uphill in the sun, but nontheless...)

OK, the last photos from Paris...

This is from....I can't remember where originally. You see with the Louvre, you go for ACRES and acres...and then your brain cannot absorb another thing, and you still have to walk for miles and miles and miles through hectares of spectacular art...it blurs...but this....was so impressive we stopped and gazed at it. We appreciated it for what it is...now...and know NOTHING about it at all....lovely though. (possibly from Cyprus, but that is quite a guess.)

Funky Napoleonic armchair....three people could all do each other's hair at the same time.

Rembrandt.....

From the sublime....to the SEWERS!!!!

Here for your edification is some genuine Parisienne sewer sludge.

Sewer sludge boots....and (aaaahhhhggggg) sandals! Think about it....eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww.

Back to the sublime...have I mentioned that my BIL is a great cook? Best quiche I EVER ate....

Eldest loves this mask...looks angsty and adolescent...and lovely too.....

I had heard little about this painter...though it turns out he was instrumental in getting the Impressionist work to the Musée D'Orsay...seems he was a painter....and he was rich, so he helped support a bunch of the other artists, and collected their work, and then donated it to the D'Orsay...or their predecessor....and he can P.A.I.N.T. Gustave Caillebotte.

I find something in this portrait so compelling.

This is his work too, and I love it as well....not as pretty as much of the Impressionist work, but powerful.

Claude Monet....

Van Gogh, the blue isn't as rich and profoundly powerful as in real life....

Degas.....Wishwishwish I could do this...and he was loosing his eyesight....omgoodness...

SNOW ANGELS!!!!!

Snow was a bit of a theme for the week....

Monet at the L'Orangerie....these suckers were truly astonishing.....

Ok...that's it....Paris.....enough, m'kay.

Rocky, these pictures are so beautiful. I've never been one to go to an art museum, but I would HAVE to go and see these if I am ever lucky enough to make it to Paris.

Your photos are exceptional.
Love them.
The black and white piece on the previous post that you suggest could be a Keith Haring?
I suspect it is huge a Jean Tinguely "garden-playground" piece done long before Keith appeared on the scene.
That quiche makes my mouth water - how does your BIL get it to look so marvellously golden brown? Did he let you in on his secrets? GM

Great photos! Difficult to pick favourites, but the ones of the figures looking up at, not God, but something else they might think is divine? Oooh, that was naughty!

it's just too bad we missed each other. Really

Late to the "picture party" but have looked over them all. Not only are they impressive but so is your ability with the camera.
I am especially taken with that mask your eldest loves.

Love the photos from your day- especially from artists whom I love!

Enjoy your trip! Carla

Loved you picture tour of you Paris trip. Just awesome. I would like to do some traveling to see all these wonders around the world. One day maybe. OK....I've been to England, Scotland, Spain, Morocco, but they didn't have digital cameras back then....

Beth, you'll just have to get yourself to Paris! Here's hoping..

GM, it could well be Jean Tinguely, especially given his marriage to Nikki de Saint-Phalle; it was an entire room you could walk around in and leap all over, everyone was adoring it, and we were so thrilled we didn't stop to check the artist's name.

Thank you Swedishexpat...and, yes ...is that divine????

elP, I thought of that, but you were JUST back, and hadn't seen your family in ages, we'll be back up there again, my sister lives there, and you may have to come to BCN some day!

Beth, that mask was even more magical in person...it was an illicit photo in a dark room so didn't come out brilliantly, but well...

Carla, it was a great trip...sounds like yours was too.

Sirdar, if you want it enough, you'll pull it off. And you have the digital now as well, and Dawn takes a mean picture too!

I am catching up with your posts. GREAT pictures and info! And Gustave Caillebotte was kind of a hottie! But to die at age 46??? How tragic. I am off to view other works by him. Thanks for sharing!

He WAS a hottie....I so agree. So are those guys doing the floor too....apparently it was all the same guy over and over.
