A very French moment.

The Musee de l'Orangerie...OK...if you ever ever ever get to Paris...you have to go. Monet paintings larger than any area rug you've ever seen. They are absolutely enormous, spectacular and mind bending. My my my.

We had a most intensely French moment today at the green grocers. See I wanted to make a salad, with spinach, avocados and grapefruit. I had to get the spinach and avocado at the local green grocer. The spinach he tried to sell me was big enough to make a bed with. I may not be French, but really, I don't want spinach quite like that for a salad. A goat would have trouble digesting it. I asked for smaller. Got that. Then I wanted two avocados. Seems they weren't going to be ready until tomorrow. Just a little too hard. I nearly couldn't buy them. He wouldn't let me touch them, even when I wanted to. Understand me here, I had to buy two VERY expensive avocados, without ever touching them....on his word and I had to promise not to eat them till tomorrow. Only then would he give them to me.

I debated going in to grocers after dinner to tell him we had eaten them, but I did have to admit they would have been better tomorrow.

Only in France would you have to argue with the grocer to get your produce, and promise that you will eat it when it is perfect and only then.

Oh La La...

I'd consider moving...

What a pity about the tooth but l hope the dentist back home took care of it. No pain usually means the nerve is dead and has been for quite some time.
Oh, the joys of grinding one's teeth!GM

the musée de l'orangerie is the one with the nymphéas, isn't it? the one next to the Trocadéro?

That's what I love about Europeans - they take their food very seriously.

Sounds like a delicious salad!

I'm so sorry about your tooth. I have been there and done that (tried to soldier along with a painful, shattered tooth) and it's No fun!! I hope you're having it all fixed up now!

I love the Orsay museum, but have never been to l'Orangerie. You've got me all inspired to go for another Paris visit and take it in!

Ohhhh Beth, I only WISH they would come home and cook for me....

GM...grinding teeth, ho hum indeed.

ElP...yes, or oui! L'Orangerie is the one with the enormous Nymphéas, in the Jardin de les Tuileries...by the Egyptian obelisk and that weird wheel thing-y. They are sublime.

Trish, It is a great salad...spinach (duh) then slice up just the insides of a grapefruit...no yucky pith, and slice an avocado into the grapefruit so it doesn't go brown. Stir it together. You can get fancy and add an oil, but I like it best just. like. that.

Beth...the appointment's for Thursday. MAJOR fiesta day today and tomorrow for some folks too....and DO go back to Paris for l'Orangerie...it is stunning.
