Zoo and day two in Amsterdam

Wanted to add a little more about our Amsterdam adventure....

Part of why the Dutch speak such good English is that so many of the movies are offered in the original language, so while we were there we went and saw the latest Woody Allen, Vicky Christina Barcelona. It was really very very good. What's her name, the famous one was good, the Spanish lover type was suitably smoldering. I do have to say that I had some trouble with one issue though. The Spanish lover, who was introduced as a famous Catalan painter had a very Spanish name and spoke only Spanish through the entire film. They also listened to Flamenco, which is from Andalucia and is not Catalan and the character who was doing a masters in Catalan identity was studying Spanish.

Hmmmmm

That said, great film, and pathetically, I think that is the first time I have been to a movie theater since before eldest was born. Weird that.

We also went to the zoo....four kids, beautiful day....off we went. Lots of cute and interesting animals, and lots of happy kids.

Plus I did a little shopping...I didn't buy this bag, though I have to confess I love it, and I could have gotten MILES of obedience training out if it, threatening eldest that I would wear it out in public if she didn't reform....

Plus I got the man this hat!!!! It's from BC hats in Australia. He has needed a hat for AGES, and occasionally buys himself (appalling) ones because they are cheap. I don't think it's cheap if they're that ugly, but anyway...so I got him one that wasn't cheap, but is really nice....a bac pac traveler...I have to admit, I kinda want one myself.

and it fit!

YEAH!

Penelope Cruz is the actress. I'm not a big fan of hers, but that is probably just me. She was good in the movie from others that I've heard from.

I enjoy going to zoos. Nice pics.

I just about bought one of those hats when I was at Minter Gardens near Chilliwack, BC last spring. Going there again this spring so maybe I need to stop there on the way. They seemed to be real good quality and yes...and little more than I wanted to spend...but I regretted not getting it.

Great hat. You'll regret not having bought one for yourself.
Love that picture of the lion - the noble look. (Reminds me of our dog.)

Love your pictures!! You have an eye for photography!

I like the top portion of the purse, but the bottom section might need a flea collar.

Yes, goregeous pics, as always. You do have an eye! Incidentally, I once wrote a poem about trying to photograph a Morpho (this was in Costa Rica and they were out in the wild, not in a zoo, so it was pretty difficult.) Hmm, I wonder if I could find the poem-- no idea where it might be at this point. Anyway, nice shots. I love the lion, and the pelicans, especially.

JG, same same over here...the dog seems somewhat better....

Sirdar...that's her...it is worth the money to get a GOOD hat....then NOT lose it:-)

Beth...Major must have been great...Eldest took that pic!

Carla, eldest would agree with you about the purse...eldest must have an eye too, some photos are hers....

Kate...if you find the poem it would be fun to read...the lion, as I said was eldest's photo...the pelicans are mine....well I took the photo...and thanks.

Great Zoo photos (but the first is blank here). I think the hat looks great. We were looking at similar ones when we were in Chiliwack last year, the hats were also from Australia.

I wouldn't have known all that in the movie, and I guess that is what they count on.

Dawn, there is no question that they simplified it for the movie, but it frankly still rankles for the Catalans, it is their culture and language that is being ignored for simplicities sake. Can you imagine what the Bloc would have to say if it happened in Quebec? The famous Quebecois painter John Smith who only speaks English and goes to Orange parades and wears a kilt in his free time? NOT.
