Egg Poachers

My folks very kindly sent on these egg poachers....and I was feeling kind of purist about the whole thing, but then I tried them.  It is easier, and you lose much less  of the white into the water....it also is a neater shape, as you can see below, but you have to add a little oil, so that is a bit of a negative.  I should try it without.  Plus it's pretty fun to do.

Yummmmm, no?

I have some of those, too, but have never used them. Do you just crack the egg into them, and set them in boiling water until they are ready? It looks like evn the top part gets cooked just from the heat of the water. Can you get the yolk to stay runny while the white is cooked? That's how they like them at my house (though I am not a fan of runny yolks...)

As long as it's convenient and efficient... I wouldn't mind. I've never tried doing poached eggs anyways.

Boat rides for eggs! Awesome!

I have some of those – love them. And I’ve tried just about every poached egg gadget on the market!

They look like silicon poachers - silicon cooking/baking thingies have taken off here. I never loved poached eggs so I can't be a valued commentor. As for finding something to drink whilst out - sounds like a good compromise. I often stick with fizzy water - sometimes called club soda or sparkling mineral water and add a bit of lemon or lime juice. Speaking of which...it's time to let out my latest batch...

It's only very recently that I've begun to poach eggs at all and usually boil the water, turn the heat off and drip the egg in the water for 4 mins with the lid on. We do have a poaching pan but, to be honest, it just makes for horrible washing up!

If you don't put the oil in you don't get the egg out when I tried it!

I'm kind of a purist, too, but some of them are genius and actually work . . . like these, apparently. Love the idea of "boat rides for eggs." May have to try!

Kate, yeah, you put in a little oil, sit them in an inch and a half of boiling water, pop on the lid and wait, if you time it right, the yolk is still runny, which is how we like them too....except eldest who finds that DISGUSTING.

ElP, I hadn't until recently, and decided to take up the challenge! Now your turn, c'mon, if I can, you should be able to, you've got bags of national pride to hold up there......

Beth, cool, no? I should put the photo of the poachers the other way up, they look remarkably like WWII SS helmets....kind of alarming.

Beth, what colour are yours?

Kim, Silicone is pretty big here too, though I will confess to being an old fashioned girl and preferring metal as a rule of thumb, but these babies do work very well.

Jan, I was poaching them without the holder, and they worked just fine, though I have to admit, they come out prettier this way, and you lose less of the white, plus you can do more than one egg at a time, which is nice.

Helen, noted, I won't try it without the oil! Thanks.

JG...sometimes, something simple that works is a neat thing.

Mine are yellow. (Favourite colour.)

Yellow would look very pretty...especially with eggs, and a little less military than mine!
